How to apply for Postgraduate courses
Applications for postgraduate courses are made directly to the University (not through the national UCAS system which is for undergraduates). Application forms for full-time and part-time taught degrees, along with specific course leaflets, can be obtained from Course Enquiries. Tel: 01772 892400 (email: cenquiries@uclan.ac.uk).
Alternatively, you can download an application form (also see application form guidance notes). Please follow the instructions attached to the document, complete it in full and return to the University's Admissions Office.
Our Postgraduate Diploma and Masters courses in Broadcast Journalism and Newspaper Journalism have additional requirements as part of the selection procedure and information, so students should email cenquiries@uclan.ac.uk for an application pack rather than just downloading the standard application form.
Details of specific course application procedures:
Journalism Leaders Programme
Application for courses is made online at the University's e-learning website, or by completing the standard application form.
MA International Documentary and Factual Television Production
Follow the standard application procedure.

Online Journalism
Applicants to this course should follow the standard application procedure. You are advised to submit your application for a place on the course as early as possible, as applications start to arrive in November-December for the following September's intake. All shortlisted candidates are interviewed (overseas students usually by telephone) and these usually take place in March-May, although later applicants will be considered if places are still available on the course.
Postgraduate Diploma Broadcast Journalism and MA Broadcast Journalism
The application procedure includes writing and speaking tests. The tests, and the standard application form must both be submitted for application onto the MA and Postgraduate Diploma courses. You can request the tests for each course, and an application form by post, by emailing cenquiries@uclan.ac.uk. Alternatively, you can download the standard application form, the application tests for the Postgraduate Diploma Broadcast Journalism and the application tests for the MA Broadcast Journalism. Please follow the instructions attached to the documents, complete them in full and return to the University's Admissions Office. Applications should be made as soon as possible for the course beginning the following September. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to group interviews over the Easter period.
Postgraduate Diploma Newspaper Journalism and MA Newspaper Journalism
The application procedure includes preparation of a newspaper article and details of the set task are sent out with the application form. Applications should be made as soon as possible for the course beginning the following September.
A shortlist will be drawn up and these candidates will be individually interviewed over the Easter period. You will be informed of the decision about three weeks after the interview process ends.
Minority ethnic groups and disabled people are under-represented in journalism, and the department is active in trying to redress this imbalance. Applications from members of these groups are particularly welcome.
We also welcome applications from mature students. We cannot comment on whether age is a barrier to employment in this sector, other than to say that in our limited experience so far, this has not been the case. But we do know that mature students often benefit from the rigours of postgraduate work because they have a strong focus on their studies and are more practised in time and task management.
