Cluster flats en-suite
Roeburn hall
Built in 1995, Roeburn hall cluster flats provide en-suite rooms for 396 students. Situated directly behind the university's indoor sports centre and just five minutes walk from the Department of Journalism, the en-suite facilities in the modern cluster flats make them very popular with international students.
In Roeburn hall, single study, en suite bedrooms are grouped into flats of four to seven people sharing a communal dining room and kitchen, with a separate lounge area. Roeburn hall is a no smoking area.
Facilities
Study bedrooms
The study bedrooms are all singles and each contains a bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, desk, chair, bookshelves, angle-poise lamp. Study bedrooms will also be equipped with a telephone. All rooms are carpeted. The en-suite bathroom comprises a toilet, shower, mirror and wash basin.
Kitchens and lounges
The kitchens are shared by everyone in the flat and contain the following: electric cooker, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, storage cupboards and food preparation areas. A large seating/dining area is also provided.
Other
The cluster flats are fitted with storage heaters in the communal areas and electric wall heaters in the study bedrooms. Charges for electricity are included in the rent. A coin-operated laundry is available on site.
Staffing
Roebum has a live-in staff to attend to urgent problems and emergencies outside office hours. The residence is also patrolled by the university's security personnel each night. All matters during office hours are handled by one of the residence officers who are additionally available at other times via an on-call rota. An elected committee of residents meet staff regularly to discuss problems and organise social events.
Cleaning & maintenance
Stairwells and lobbies are cleaned Monday to Friday but students are responsible for the day-to-day cleaning of their own flats. Vacuum cleaners and other cleaning equipment are provided for students' use. All maintenance issues are handled directly by the Student Accommodation Service in Marsh Building.
