Traditional halls

Blakewater - Brennand - Brock - Brun

Situated near the city centre, close to all university buildings and directly opposite Department of Journalism to the north of the university campus, UCLan's traditional halls of residence are ideal for students wanting to integrate with others from the UK and from other countries.

Built in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the traditional halls have around 260 rooms split into seven blocks. Single study bedrooms are grouped on corridors on three floors with communal kitchen and bathroom facilities.

Facilities

Study bedrooms
The single study bedrooms contain a bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, desk, chair, bookshelf, vanity unit, mirror and wash basin. All rooms are carpeted and have a telephone.

Kitchens
The kitchens are shared by seven to 15 students and contain at least one of the following: electric cooker, microwave, refrigerator, freezer and cupboards. Food preparation and seating areas are also provided.

Bathrooms
Shower, bath and toilet blocks are shared by up to seven residents.

Other
Electric storage heaters provide warmth in Blakewater, Brennand, Brock and Brun. Heating and hot water systems operate in the mornings and evenings. Charges for gas and electricity are included in your rent. The university launderette is close by.

Staffing
The traditional halls have two live-in staff to attend to urgent problems and emergencies outside office hours. Security personnel also operate from Brun office each night between 8pm and 6am. Routine matters during office hours are handled by one of the residence officers who are additionally available at other times via an on-call rota. An elected committee of residents meet staff regularly to discuss problems and organise social events.

Cleaning & maintenance
Communal areas including kitchens are cleaned daily Monday to Friday. Students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and vacuum cleaners and other cleaning equipment are provided. Students are expected to wash their own pots. All maintenance issues are handled directly by the Student Accommodation Service in Marsh Building.
