Preston

Situated in the heart of the colourful county of Lancashire in the north-west of England, Preston dates back to 1179 and has now become the gateway to the region's beautiful landscape and historical sights.

As England's newest city, plans have been agreed for a new multi-million redevelopment of Preston City Centre to include major retail, leisure and cultural facilities which will enhance the existing excellent shopping centres, magnificent churches and scenic gardens.

Packed and buzzing

The 30,000 students at the University ensure that Preston's pubs and restaurants are packed during the day and the city's bars and nightclubs are buzzing by night. The central Guild Hall and Charter Theatre also hosts live concerts and sporting events.

If you are a lover of sport then Preston is an ideal place to be. As well as all the facilities provided by the University and the city for playing sport, there is also a great deal to watch in the region, including world class live snooker at the Guild Hall and football at Preston North End FC. You can also watch the latest movies or go bowling at one of Preston's entertainment parks.

For a fun and interesting day out, there are a host of museums and galleries for you to choose from in the City, including the UK's National Football Museum and the magnificent Harris Museum and Art Gallery.

Pride in people

Attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, Preston takes great pride in its people and celebrates its cultural diversity with an all year round events programme which includes the unique Easter egg rolling event, the colourful Caribbean Carnival and the Preston Mela, Festival of South Asian Culture.

And if you are looking further afield, Preston is in an ideal location to travel to nearby Blackpool, Lancaster, the beautiful Lake District, and the cities of Liverpool and Manchester.
