For a truly memorable family day out, visit some of the city's newest and most exciting museums and galleries. You can see an exhibition charting the history of the world famous Wembley Stadium at the UK's National Football Museum or sample some of the country's finest exhibitions of art and sculpture at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery.

National Football Museum

Housing some of the greatest collections of football memorabilia in the world, including the official FIFA, FA, Football League and Wembley collections and the original Jules Rimet World Cup Trophy, the National Football Museum has gained recognition as the 'spiritual home of football', and it's completely free!

Through a number of exciting interactive displays, UK footballing greats Gary Lineker and Alan Hansen invite visitors to take part in a football commentary TV programme, and famous personalities from the world of football bring the game to life through fantastic TV and radio footage.

When it opened in 2001, the museum became the first and largest major football museum in the world. Located underneath two stands at Preston North End's Deepdale Stadium, the museum is situated in an area rich in footballing history. In 1889 Preston North End FC were the first winners of the oldest league in the world. The club also plays at the oldest, continuously used league stadium in the world, having played its first game at Deepdale in 1878.

Over 1,000 objects are on display in the museum at any one time, from the 25,000 artefacts in storage, and recently, temporary exhibitions of the museum's collections were hosted at the World Cup in Japan as well as similar displays in Germany and France.
