The University

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is a UK university with a truly international focus. The campus is home to students and staff from many different social and ethnic backgrounds across the UK, and from almost every country in the world.

The university campus is in Preston, a large and thriving city in the county of Lancashire, north-west England. Good transport links by road, rail and air make Preston an ideal location for national and international travel.

With around 30,000 students studying at Preston, UCLan is now the sixth largest university in the UK, and the Journalism Department has recently been rated 'excellent' by the UK government's Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency.

£77million investment

During the last ten years the University has spent over £77million in providing a modern, state of the art learning environment, with free internet access via an extensive computer network, and a new library  providing access to national and international resources through online databases.

In addition to its first class facilities, the University has an excellent student support and guidance service, including an international student support team, a multi-faith centre and an English language support service for international students.

And if you want to take a break from your studies, there are lots of ways to enjoy yourself. There are several restaurants and coffee shops on campus and the Students' Union building has three bars with regular live entertainment.

Things to do

There are over sixty clubs and societies which will help you to make friends from the UK and around the world, perhaps continuing an existing interest, or trying something completely new. The international society allows students to experience different cultures and nationalities and organises low-priced day trips to UK destinations and weekend trips to Europe at very reasonable prices.

You can try your hand at a number of sports, from snowboarding to horse riding, and even if you're not in a sports club, you can take advantage of the university’s sports facilities. UCLan's indoor sports centre has an activities hall, a fully equipped fitness room and dance studio and you can also use the excellent facilities at Preston's magnificent £12million sports arena.
