The University of Central Lancashire now has its very own news page thanks to hardworking students and the Lancashire Evening Post.

The Department of Journalism has teamed up with Prestonís award winning evening paper to produce a platform for student news and views.

Studentstoday was successfully launched on October 26, 2004 and will appear every Tuesday. One of the first people to be involved was third year BA (Hons) Journalism student Sarah Heavens, whose vox pop on hunting was a big hit.

Really good chance

She said: "I think the studentís page is a really good chance for us to build up contacts, improve our CVs and portfolios and get a taste of what it feels like to see our names on a byline in a paper.

"Actually visiting the paper and getting a feel of what itís like to work for a large local paper was good experience. Plus it was a good chance to network."

The page is co-ordinated by journalism lecturer Kate Jenner, who was a subeditor on the LEP before she joined the Department.

Anyone with news or ideas for stories for the page should email her at kjenner@uclan.ac.uk.
