The Hitchhiker's Guide to being a good writer

By UKJournalism

First-year BA (Hons) Journalism student Ian Lewis

A BA (Hons) Journalism student brushed shoulders with the stars at a glitzy London premiere after being recognised for his writing.

18 year-old first-year student Ian Lewis was given exclusive access to the official press screening on April 20, just hours before the London premiere of the new film "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".

Ian received an invite to the screening because the filmís PR company liked an article heíd written for University magazine Pluto about a competition linked to the film.

He said: "We received a press release a while ago about a competition called "Iím a student get me out of hereî in which two students are flown somewhere in Europe and they have to get back to Big Ben."

Pyjamas

"They could only spend £100 along the way, they had to take photos of two landmarks in each country they visit using a camera phone, and, like in the film, they had to do it all wearing only pyjamas.

"The PR company of the film got hold of Pluto magazine and liked my story so sent us an invite to the screening. There were about 25 journalists and 15 students there altogether."

All of the filmís stars were present, including British actors Martin Freeman (Tim from The Office), Bill Nighy and Stephen Fry.

Ian said: "It was my first real opportunity to go a star studded press conference and it was a great experience. I want to be an entertainment journalist when I finish my course here."

Heís going the right way about it. Ian is currently features editor for University magazine Pluto.
