Claire scores a winner with Real Madrid TV

By UKJournalism

Hola Espana! TV Journalism student Claire Rourke is off to Madrid after landing a dream job reporting and presenting for Real Madrid TV, the football clubís satellite TV channel.

Claire, who graduates this Summer with a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in Journalism, travels to Madrid this week to start her new job.

The 24 hour channel is one of the most popular in Spain and itís now looking for a new audience in Great Britain via satellite and digital TV. Itís expected to launch its UK venture within the next few weeks.

Tough competition

Claire, whoís from Doncaster, had to beat off tough competition to secure her fabulous job. It helped that sheís pretty clued-up on football, having played for women's football club Doncaster Belles for nine years and representing Yorkshire.

She commented; "I did the original screen test in London in a small casting agency. 500 people applied and 90 were screen tested and this was eventually narrowed down to eight of us.

"We are going out to Madrid this week and the channel is due to be launched on the 1st of July. Viewers will be able to subscribe to it on sky and digital.

"Iím obviously delighted about the job, it is such a fantastic opportunity and it has proved anything is possible. This is my dream job and to have the chance to do it straight out of university is a dream come true.

"All credit goes to the University and the Journalism Department for all the help and encouragement they have given me."

Thrilled

Claireís TV tutor Deborah Robinson said; "We are all thrilled for Claire. Sheís worked so hard this year and fully deserves this fabulous opportunity.

"Claire enjoyed work experience at Granada TV, BBC World Sport and the BBC childrenís programmes in her final year at UCLan and this really helped to hone her TV skills.

"We are very proud of her achievement. Several of Claireís student colleagues are also working in TV, including the BBC Inside Out documentary series. Theyíve all done very well."
