Football-mad Leon is over the blue moon

Football mad Leon Collins

Journalism student Leon Collins has scored a winning goal on the eve of graduating. Football mad Leon has landed a job as an assistant club journalist with Manchester City.

"Despite being a Liverpool fan Iím over the moon to get an opportunity like this," says the 27-year-old Liverpudlian. "Especially as we both hate Manchester United."
 
Leon will be working on the clubís website and following the reserve team to provide match reports.

Heíll be based at the new City of Manchester stadium which was the main arena for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

"Itís a great backdrop for any working day," says Leon, who gets a laptop, a mobile phone and two free season tickets. But he wonít says who heís giving the other one to.

Quick-off-the-mark

The quick-off-the-mark Combined Honours Journalism student started applying for jobs as soon as heíd finished his last exam.

He added: "Iím just looking forward to starting a career in journalism. Itís something I always worked towards. Because Iím a big football fan it really is the ideal job."

Leon, graduates with an upper second class joint honours degree in journalism. He even managed to write about football for his degree. His dissertation focused on the impact of clubs moving to new homes.
