Student journalists rewarded at first UCLan media awards
By UK Journalism

The University of Central Lancashireís finest student journalists were rewarded at the first UCLan Media Awards.
Hundreds of students glammed-up for the Oscars style ceremony at the Studentís Union.
The awards recognised the talent and effort of the volunteers who worked for Pluto, the student newspaper and Frequency, the student radio station.
Pluto editor Mark Hudson, changed the paper from a monthly magazine to a fortnightly tabloid newspaper and in just nine months it has built up a reputation with the students and is a strong rival of the local press.
Success
Mark said: ìThe awards evening ended what has been a hugely successful year for our student-run media.
ìWhile we rewarded people who had done exceptionally well, I hope that everyone who was at the ceremony is proud of what they have achieved.î
Frequency station manager Emma Syer said: ìIt was a wonderful way of showing our volunteers how vital they are to Frequency 1350 and I hope that it's boosted our morale and encouraged people to return next year.
ìThe awards made everyone feel very special and proud to be part of everything that we have achieved over the last year.î
Head of the journalism department Mike Ward said: ìIíd like to express my admiration for the level of commitment and hard work shown by all who have worked on UCLan student media this year.
ìI was close enough to last summerís preparations for the re-launch of Pluto and Frequency to know just how much blood, sweat and tears went into this.
ìWhat has emerged is a great testament of their determination, talent and commitment.î
