Paul Egglestone chats to two students

Senior Journalism Lecturer Paul Egglestone has gone to Shanghai to meet Chinese students who will study in Preston next year on a new undergraduate programme.

35 BA (Hons) Media Management students from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) will come to UCLan for their second and third year studies.

The course is designed to ìequip students with the skills and knowledge to operate effectively in the field of media management in the twenty first centuryî and the first year is run by the highly respected Shanghai Publishing and Printing College that is part of USST.

Blog

Paul is spending time with the students to find out more about the city and see what they are expecting to get out of their time in the UK. He has created a blog to document his time in Shanghai that contains photographs and discussions with students that he intends to regularly update during his week there.

So far they have looked at the history and purpose of news, watched BBC newsreels and discussed media and globalisation.

Talking about some of the students he has met Paul said: ìCarrie's home is in Zhejiang, five hours from Shanghai, and like thousands of girls her age she has moved city so she can study.î

He added: ìShe loves the big city, its colour and vibrancy. And she's excited about the changes she feels are sweeping across china bringing with them new jobs and new opportunities.î
