Video editing tips from Granada

By UKJournalism

Simon Casson with the broadcast students

Broadcast Journalism students have been given expert advice on video editing from a Granada editor.

Simon Casson, who works as a VT Editor for the ITV regional news channel, spent the day showing students various techniques and giving feedback on their work.

Simon has more than eight years experience in the industry having started off as a Junior Editor and then moving onto work for Sky Sports News in London before going to Granada.

Creativity

He said: ìKnowledge in this area is built up by experience and getting to know the software really well. There are opportunities to be creative and it can be a pressurised job when a piece needs editing just before a deadline.î

Simon Casson with the studentsSimon split the students up into small groups so he could demonstrate and look closely at their work.

He added: ìWhat I saw was really good. I gave them tips on editing more effectively and ways to be more creative.î
