Around the world in 23 days

By UK Journalism

Tom Randall

A graduate has been given the task of travelling around 10 countries in 23 days all in the name of journalism.

Tom Randall is a Video Journalist for Granada News and will visit and interview ex-patís from the North West who have now settled around the globe.

It is part of the ìYour Storyî series that Tom introduced when he came to Granada which already runs twice a week as three minute reports on the lives on people around the region.

Interesting ex-pats

He said: ìI got the idea to take the programme international after hearing about the first round the world holiday package being introduced. Iíll be meeting up with some interesting ex-pats including a rock star in Cape Town and a guy who composes music for the video game Grand Theft Auto and now lives in New York.î

Tom starts his trip in New York and will also visit Las Vegas, Hawaii, Sydney, Borneo, Beijing, Delhi, Dubai, Cape Town and Cairo.

He left UCLan in 2006 after completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism. Since then Tom has worked for the BBC Politics Show where he covered the Liberal Democrats leadership contest, then in Northern Ireland and later he came back to the region to work at BBC North West Tonight.

He is the first ever Video Journalist to work at Granada.

Tom RandallTom said: ìI enjoy it because I get more control over what I am doing and am left to do a whole project myself. It means I do everything from interviewing to editing so I work in a different way to other journalists.î

The ìYour Storyî series airs on Tuesdays and Thursdays and has already looked into the lives of a Big Issue vendor, a childrenís entertainer and Police Officers tackling gangs in Manchester.

Tomís around the world interviews will go out in March and April and he is looking forward to seeing Hawaii the most.

He added: ìHopefully Iíll be able to spend a bit of time at the beach to recover from the jet lag.î
