Postgraduate is Merseyside Sports Writer of the Year

A former postgraduate student has been voted Sports Writer of the Year at a Merseyside media awards bash.

Dominic King, who works at the Liverpool Echo, received the accolade at the Merseyside Media Network Awards in Liverpool that was attended by 200 people from across the print, broadcast and online media in Merseyside.

Whole spectrum

Dominic said: ìI was really pleased to win but surprised as I was up against well respected journalists in the industry. It was quite a big event as it covered the whole spectrum of journalism in the area.î

Dominic submitted three stories for nomination including an exclusive story on Everton Football Club signing a deal with Tesco towards a new stadium.

He has worked at the Liverpool Echo for two years and previously at the Manchester Evening News as a freelance journalist after leaving UCLan with a Postgraduate Diploma in Print Journalism in 2003.

He added: ìSports journalism can be a competitive area to get into and you have to be prepared to cover anything from swimming to hockey. I enjoy my job because every day is different and itís nice to tell the stories that people are talking about.î
