Anthony Baxter and his Co-presenter Charlotte Ashton

A UCLan broadcast graduate is the face of a new television programme for BBC Switch called “Revealed” that will air on BBC Two.

Anthony Baxter, who completed UCLan’s Postgraduate Broadcast Journalism course in 2004, will co-present the 15 minute programme aimed at teenagers which launches on Saturday 17th May.

“It’s news but not news” said Anthony. “The series aims to address issues that relate to teenagers and give them a voice. The first episode looks at the negativity that surrounds the image of young people.”

Anthony was selected as a co-presenter of the programme, alongside Charlotte Ashton, whilst working as an Assistant Producer for the BBC’s Newsround. After completing a screen test he was offered the six month contract and jumped at the chance.

“I’ve always enjoyed presenting from my time on local radio so it’s a great opportunity for me. I’m glad to be involved in this project right from the start and hopefully help to build a house style.”

Teenage audience

BBC Switch officially launched last October and is the area of the BBC that runs across TV and Radio that is specifically for a teenage audience. So far two Revealed programmes have been filmed and the team have travelled all over the UK to speak to teenagers.

Anthony said: “We’ve been from Belfast to Preston to Devon and met lots of different people. We want to see if the reality is different to what people perceive and it’s great because teenagers aren’t afraid to speak up and tell you what they really think.”

Anthony says though it was a wrench to leave the Newsround team he is really enjoying his current role with BBC Switch and it happy to see where it takes him.

He added: “Switch is a great challenge because it’s so new and we want to build up an audience. Newsround gave me a lot of production skills and presenting is something else that I can now build on.”
